Suresh Raina – Indian batting’s fulcrum in ODI
27 November 1986, saw the birth of one of India’s most gifted and loved sons in the city of Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Nicknamed ‘Sonu’ this kid grew up to be one of India’s most prized possessions in terms of cricketing brilliance. And today, Sonu or we call know him as our very own Suresh Raina celebrates his 27th Birthday and we on behalf of everyone in India would like to wish him a very Happy B’day and hope to see him scoring truckloads of runs, taking plenty of wickets and grabbing bucketful of catches making us even more proud of him.
Suresh Raina represents the new age Indian cricketer, an attacking left-hander who goes for the big shots with impunity and clears the field with a swashbuckling flourish when at the top of his game. Raina is also equally capable of attracting applause as an electric fielder in the circle and arguably India’s most athletic player on the field.
At the age of just 27, there is nothing that Suresh Raina hasn’t achieved in the limited overs format in cricket. Right from winning the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings to winning the Champions Trophy with India, from winning the Champions League T20 with Chennai Super Kings to winning the World Cup for India in 2011. Being a great fielder, he was rightly awarded the ‘Best Fielder Award’ by BCCI. He owns the record for the most number of catches taken in T20 in the year 2012. He also holds the record for the most number of runs scored in IPL matches and also for the most number of IPL matches played.
It is no easy feat to achieve all this at such a young age of 27 and having played for India for 8 years now, he made his debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka, he is a senior member in the side and has a lot of responsibility to nurture the younger talent. It is fair to say that he will be an integral part in the Indian batting cog and being only the 12th Indian to score a century on Test debut, might even have to step up soon in the Test format as well.
So again, here’s wishing Suresh Raina a very happy birthday. May you have more successful and prosperous years ahead. Follow all important happening in Indian cricketer’s life here.
