South Africa beat India by 142 runs in the first one-day international in Johannesburg on Thursday. Visitors chasing 359 to win were bundled out for 217 after 41 overs at the Bidvest Wanderes Stadium on Thursday.
South African bowlers fired in unison to bowl out India for 217 and inflicted 141-run defeat on the visitors in the first ODI of the three-match series at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
South African fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Ryan McLaren were the pick of the pack taking three wickets each to give the hosts 1-0 lead in the series.
For India skipper MS Dhoni showed some resolve with his 71-ball 65 but his effort went in vain as all other Indian batsman failed to live upto the expectations.
India struggled at the start of their innings and found themselves in deep trouble on 108/5 at half-way stage in their chase. It was then Jacques Kallis broke the half-century stand between Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni by removing the former to leave India reeling in first ODI. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh all failed to deliver as South African pacers ran riot.
Earlier, Quinton de Kock scored his second one-day international century to help the Proteas post an imposing 358 for four batting first in their opening match of the series.
De Kock (135 runs, 121 balls, 18×4, 3×6) was in typical aggressive mood, and with the experienced Hashim Amla (65 runs,88b, 5×4, 1×6) at the other end put together an opening stand of 152.
After Amla fell, De Kock continued unabated as he moved towards three figures.
De Kock moved to 98 with a huge six over midwicket and then had no problem as he brought up his century off 101 balls. The 20-year-old was eventually out for 135 caught and bowled by Virat Kohli, with the Proteas on 247 for three in the 42nd over.
After De Kock left the scene, AB de Villiers (77 runs, 47 balls, 6×4, 4×6) and JP Duminy (59* runs, 29b, 2×4, 5×6) shared in an explosive partnership of 105 runs off 46 balls which was instrumental in South Africa posting the huge score. The carnage which went on at the end can be seen from the fact that The Proteas hammered 84 runs in lst five overs.
